Life Returns In Cities As COVID-19 Cases Rise, Who Will Save Kenyans?

Kenyans are very peculiar human beings that do not fear death yet create hullabaloos when it is somebody close to them that dies, they are bitter souls that will clog social media platforms to throw insults at people whose lifestyles they cannot afford.

When the first COVID-19 case was reported in Kenya, Kenyans feared and argued that there must be thousands of cases in the country but once the cases have begun to rise, Kenyans now believe the numbers are being cooked to benefit a few souls.

When the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe first announced the first COVID-19 case in Kenya, Nairobians took to the cover of their homes, the streets became like of those of then Italy, ghostly.

Italy was then reporting 800 to 1000 deaths to COVID-19 infections yet Kenya had just reported the first case and we behaved exactly as Italy.

The Ministry of Health modeled and put COVID-19 projection at 1000 by mid-April but by then Kenya had less than 300 confirmed cases and oddly, Kenyans were angry that the COVID-19 cases had not hit the project thousand cases.

The increase of COVID-19 cases rose with 10-16 cases in 24 hours which Kenyans did not applaud but a little sense came across then as it is obvious the country needed to improve on its testing ability to encompass many more.

The Ministry of Health worked on building its testing capacity and gladly began on mass testing, finally, more lives would be saved as the COVID-19 virus would be arrested before it can fully destroy the patient’s lungs.

COVID-19 cases in 24 hours rose from 10 to 15, to ’20-’30’s and are now between 40 to 45 just like Kenyans wanted as a prove of mass testing and Kenyans are back at it, the Ministry of Health is cooking numbers.

Kenyans demanded a lockdown to contain them, does the government have to force you to care for yourself? The government locked down Nairobi, Kwale, and Kilifi for starters as the cases were spreading fast there to protect other counties but Kenyans still found a way to bend the law and move out and in the counties.

Why did Kenyans ask for a lockdown if they cannot observe a simple curfew and instead are mostly sneaking around to have house parties? Why were we asking for a country lockdown if we cannot observe a constituency lockdown?

Why are we as a people fighting the government at a time of crisis when we should be fighting together, will our reasons justify our parents, grandparents, and loved one’s deaths?

Only fools in-fight their own camps during wars, the people we think we are frustrating in the fight against COVID-19 will easily afford decent hospital care through the taxes you pay in the scenario they test positive for COVID-19 but will we as Kenyans despite being the taxpayer?

Yes, some funds will be lost in this COVID-19 fight in Kenya, but will that be the first or last time and how will you dying of the infection save the situation, you need to be alive to ensure a better society, dead people just lay dead.

Focus on staying safe and alive for you and your loved ones, if you have to continue seeking a living, be very intentional about observing the Ministry of Health directives.

Remember your responsibility is currently very simple to stay alive and help create a conducive environment for future generations lest your family and loved one’s bodies will be picked from their houses in a few month’s time, worry about the money in your account and all under your name for now.
