The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited (NCWSC) shut down water production at Sasumua Dam on Friday and a number of estates should brace for dry taps after a landslide that occurred inside the Aberdare Ranges forest damaging the water transmission pipeline.

The Nairobi City water has announced definite water disruption in a number of estates in Nairobi as the water transmission pipeline has been shut down for repairs.

A majority of Nairobi households and premises will be experiencing water shortage at a time when they are required to regularly wash their hands following the COVID-19 outbreak and the Nairobi water is hence advising that residents use the water they have in store sparingly.

COVID-19 has so far claimed 32 lives in Kenya and infected 672 people with a recommendable 232 recoveries with fears rife that with lack of running water, the infection rate in Nairobi might spike.

Below is a list of estates that have been marked for water disruption:

  • Areas along Waiyaki Way, Naivasha road, Kangemi, Lavington, Westlands, Parklands, M.P.Shah Hospital, Agha Khan Hospital and ILRI, Upper hill, Kilimani
  • Nairobi Hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital, and Community.
  • University of Nairobi main campus hall of residence, Upper and Lower Kabete campus, University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University Parklands law campuses.
  • Estates around Kenyatta market, Kibera, Langata, Jamhuri, Ngando, Riruta/Satelite, Dagoretti Corner, Kawangware,
  • Areas along Langata, Madaraka Estate, Mbagathi and Ngong roads, Karen.
  • Loresho, Nyari, Kitisuru, estate along the Peponi Road, New Muthaiga and Thigiri ridge areas

Residents of estates in Eastlands who had been experiencing water shortage were relieved to get water over the weekend as water supply in the areas resumed after Ng’ethu treatment works begun stabilizing.

“Our engineers and the maintenance staff are on the site. Currently, the area is experiencing heavy rains making access very difficult. The government is doing everything possible to restore the supply of water to residents of Nairobi,” Muguna said.
