“Rescue Us From The Middle East,” Kenyans Stuck In Arab Countries Beg

When they travelled to the Middle East to seek employment, it was out of desperation and to want to make something out of their lives but nothing would have prepared them for the COVID-19 outbreak that would befall the World and frustrate their lives to a point of giving up on life.

With some stuck in Saudi Arabia and others in Oman, the Kenyans who had travelled in these countries are now desperately pleading with the government to bring them home.

Through a video shared widely on social media platforms, Kenyans stuck in the Middle East are now begging the government not to forget them even though poor and instead evacuate them like it did those that had sought treatment in India.

The video and voice clips widely shared on social media platforms have the Kenyans stuck in Middle East, mostly women, begging the government not to neglect them to their pain and suffering “because we are poor.”

The Kenyans stuck in the Middle East appear to be worn-out with one of them falling unconscious and getting supported by her Kenyan colleagues before they continue narrating their ordeal.

The Kenyans stuck in the Middle East narrate that they went to the Middle East through agencies which are known to secure jobs for domestic workers, gardener among other menial jobs.

It is reported that most Kenyans who worked for families in the Middle East were dismissed before they could even earn enough for their VISAs back home and have since been stranded with the airports closed down and all flights grounded.

“We squeeze into this tiny rooms while some of us sleep by petrol stations while some just squeeze around shops at night,” the women stuck in the Middle East say adding that they hope each day will bring them the miracle of returning to their loved ones back in Kenya.

“Some of us have resorted to living in the streets and petrol stations. We are being persecuted here through racial discrimination,” one of the women says in the clip.

The women stuck in the Middle East argue that they have tried in vain to reach out to the Kenyan embassy in Riyadh to no avail leaving them with no option but to beg for food to stay alive.

Muslim for Human Rights rapid response officer Francis Auma confirmed that they have received at least five complaints of people stuck in Oman since the COVID-19 outbreak occurred.

“We don’t understand why the government finds it easy to dispatch planes to China, India and London to evacuate those who can pay but ignore those in dire situations in the Middle East,” Auma is quoted saying adding that he failed to understand why the government was waiting for public pressure and online campaigns to act in defence of its citizens.

“This is shameful, to say the least,” Auma concluded.
