US To Cut Ties With WHO In 30 Days If Agency Fails Change Approach

US President Donald Trump has threatened to permanently pull out of funding the World Health Organization (WHO) and being a member at a time when the World is deeply entrenched in a crisis.

The letter addressed to the World Health Organization by President Trump gives WHO a 30-day deadline to commit to “substantive improvements” or risk losing millions of dollars and US membership too.

The letter which is addressed to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus criticizes the response on COVID-19 since December 2019 with the US President calling the body a “puppet of China”.

President Trump has faced criticism on how he is handling the COVID-19 pandemic even as he is headed to re-election and continues to blame China for the COVID-19 outbreak in the World.

Trump accuses WHO of failing to hold Beijing to account and instead, covering up for China which he accuses of masterminding the COVID-19 pandemic that has claimed hundreds of lives.

Trump’s country, the US, currently has more than 1.5 million of the world’s 4.8 million confirmed cases of coronavirus so far, with more than 90,000 deaths.

President Trump, in his usual dramatic way, published the letter addressed to WHO on his Twitter handle on Monday night with the US Health Secretary Alex Azar earlier accusing WHO of allowing the COVID-19 crisis to spin out of control leading to loss of many lives.

Trump argues that the WHO delayed declaring an emergency as it was under pressure from President Xi Jinping and this delayed other countries from understanding how serious the situation was.

The US president further criticizes WHO for praising China’s “transparency” amid reports of censorship and lack of international cooperation saying China was never really transparent which is why there has been a massive loss of lives.

The US President has not spared WHO for the agency’s loud silence when racial discrimination was rife with immigrants suffering the brunt of it as the World pretended not to notice.

Many lives would have been spared if WHO had acted promptly with President Trump comparing Dr. Tedros to Dr. Harlem Brundtland, who was the WHO chief during the Sars outbreak only that Dr.Tedros is considered to have failed the World.

President Trump concludes his letter to WHO Dr. Tedros by reprimanding the agency saying that “repeated missteps” have been extremely costly for the world”.
