Cost Of Sending Ksh 1000 Via M-PESA To Remain Zero To December 2020

Kenyans will continue sending 1000 shillings and below via M-Pesa at not transition charge for the next five months to December 2020 following a directive from the Central Bank of Kenya.

The CBK had directed telcos to waive charges for transacting 1000 shillings and below for three months from March. The time for the directive elapsed as the telcos were waiting on the regulator to give the way forward.

With the directive, Kenyans will continue enjoying zero-rating services for 1000 shillings and below across mobile money platforms.

“Against this backdrop and pursuant to Regulations 43 (2) of the National Payment System Regulations, 2014, the CBK has determined that the wallet and transaction limits that were announced on March 16, 2020, will remain in force,” said CBK in a statement.

The Central Bank of Kenya has issued the following directives:

There will be no for mobile money transactions of up to 1000 shillings.

The current tariff for transitions above 70,000 shillings will remain

There will be no charge by Payment Service Providers and commercial banks for transfers between mobile money wallets and bank accounts.
