Covid-19: 213 Test Positive In 24 Hours, Numbers Up To 4,257

The number of Covid-19 confirmed cases continues to rise in Kenya, casting a dark cloud on the hopes to re-open the economy. In the past 24 hours, Kenya has recorded 213 new cases, making it the highest number ever recorded since the first case in March.

The total number of confirmed cases according to the Ministry of Health on Thursday, June 18, 2020, stood at 4,257 as the government continues to call on Kenyans to be vigilant.

According to the Ministry, the 213 confirmed cases were from the samples of 6,024 tested by various agencies including KEMRI. The total number of those who have been tested on Covid-19 stands at 130,498.

“We are appealing to Kenyans to strictly continue adhering to containment measures,” said Health CAS Rashid Aman during the daily brief.

This is how the 213 individuals are spread across counties:

Nairobi – 136

Mombasa – 32

Kajiado – 13

Busia – 5

Nakuru – 4

Machakos – 4

Garissa – 3

Isiolo – 3

Taita Taveta -2

Kitui – 2

Migori – 1

Narok – 1

Embu – 1

A total of 10 people have died in the past 24 hours. This is the largest number of fatalities in a single day since the first case. The total number of those who have died now stands at 117.

The total number of recoveries in 24 hours is at 106, bringing the total number of those who have been discharged to 1,459.
