“I have no intentions of running for a third term,” President Uhuru has announced also refuting claims that he plans to become a Prime Minister in Kenya.

Speaking during a live discussion with Think Tank Atlantic, President Uhuru promised to respect the constitution and vacate the Presidential seat once his 2nd term ends in 2022

President Uhuru faulted those who were misleading Kenyans into thinking that the looming referendum was meant to enable him go for a third term which is currently against the constitution which only allows two terms.

“I have no clue if there is going to be a premiership in the Constitution…these are questions that people are now posing, i gave you a very clear synopsis of the areas where people are interested in,” President Uhuru said.

“They (Kenyans) are interested in the value of their vote, they are interested in the distribution of resources, and they are interested in inclusivity in the government,” President Uhuru added.

The conversation of the referendum being fronted to add a Prime Minister and a third term to the Presidency has been rife since there were developments on  the referendum with leaders being accused of pushing ‘dynasties’

Constitutions are not set on stone, it is unfortunate that some people want to misinterpret the referendum to mean that certain individuals want to extend their time in the office, that will not happen,” President Uhuru said.

The Referendum is closely intertwined with the famous building bridges initiative with President Uhuru being quoted saying that ‘it was to correct the wrongs committed in 2010’ during the last held Madaraka day where Kenya marked 57 years since independence.

“The constitutional moment I discern is the one that could bring an end to the senseless cycles of election violence Kenya has experienced since 1992,” President Uhuru concluded.
