Sany is about to reawaken her wrath and does not care for the COVID-19 outbreak in the country as the government has already mapped out areas set for demolishing.

Even before the dust can settle on the Kariobangi demolitions, the government is already to blow up some more dust and await the public’s fury.

The 13 areas have been identified as a health hazard across Nairobi County with the Ministry of Water saying the move is to make Nairobi habitable for its ballooning population.

The areas set for demolition areas listed below and will enable the upgrade of water and sanitation projects in the areas:

  1. Kariobangi Area
  2. Karura Area
  3. Loresho Area
  4. Gigiri reservoirs
  5. Kahawa West
  6. Kabete Area
  7. Karen Treatment Ponds
  8. Dandora Sewerage plants
  9. Eastleigh Sewerage plants
  10. Kikuyu springs
  11. Outering Tower
  12. Farasi Lane Pumping Station

“I look at Nairobi as highly challenged, sanitation is at 60 percent and it needs to move to 80 to 100 percent,” said Ministry of Water PS Joseph Irungu.

“I know it is a very emotive issue but we have to run away from emotions and look at the reality. We can’t live in a city of sewerage,” Water PS Joseph Irungu said.

“Even in your own homestead when you reserve some space to construct your toilet, if you go sit on it, where will you take your sewage you will not take it to your neighbor. So even us here, we can’t take our sewage to Machakos or other counties we have to manage it here within Nairobi,” the PS added.

The Ministry of Water plans to pump more than 140,000 cubic meters of water from Northern Water Collector Tunnel to Nairobi according to PS Irungu and those leaving on the pieces of land illegally are an obstacle.
