Safaricom PLC has today announced a temporary closure of its shops to allow cleaning, fumigation, and sanitization in the fight against COVID-19 spread.

“As we are all aware, Kenya and indeed the World is still contending with the health risk posed to our population by the COVID-19 pandemic. Safaricom continues to take proactive and preventative measures to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our staff and customers,” Safaricom has said in a press statement sent to newsrooms.

Safaricom has closed shops in Thika, Nyali, and Lavington Mall where fumigation to ensure the killing of likely COVID-19 viruses is set to begin with customers urged to make use of online services and the open shops.

“In line with this, we have today closed our Safaricom Shops in Nyali and Rex House both in Mombasa, as well as Thika and Lavington Mall shops to allow for cleaning, fumigation, and sanitization,” Safaricom has announced.

“We will be undertaking such measures regularly to our shops and customer-facing facilities, to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our staff and customers as this remains our topmost priority even as we continue to help the country in managing the Covid19 crisis,” Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom is quoted saying in the press statement.

“The affected shops will reopen on Thursday 11th June. We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” Safaricom has said.

“Customers can continue accessing all our services from our other nearby shops, as well as through our self-service channels which include; Zuri Chatbot, MySafaricom App, and our Interactive Voice Biometric System. Our customer care lines 100 and 200 are also available to all customers,” Safaricom adds on the press statement.

The move to sanitize, fumigate and clean Safaricom shops comes a week after the telecommunication company shut down its Thika Road Mall (TRM) shop temporarily after one of its staff tested positive.
