Real estate developer, Cytonn Investments has resumed the construction of the 5-billion shilling project in Ruaka, Kiambu County.

In a statement released by the CEO Edwin Dande, the company has resumed the construction of the 428 mixed-unit apartment that had been stopped due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the CEO, close to 600 Kenyan workers will resume working on the project at a time thousands of Kenyans have been rendered jobless due to the pandemic.

“The haters really hate it and the Cytonnaires really love it. The haters were on Cloud 9… They thought we were finished when the construction stopped. Well, it is now back on… And we are putting Kenyans back to work at The Alma,” he said.

The Alma had already completed and sold off 113 units mostly to expatriates working at diplomatic agencies, embassies, and multinational corporations. The project is being constructed by China Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation.

“The contractor asked to assess the Corona situation and enhance safety measures at The Alma project,” said Mr. Dande.

Construction activities have now resumed where all site workers and clients are now required to adhere to laid down health and safety guidelines when visiting the site,” he said.

The second phase of The Alma is expected to be completed in the next 6 months.

To ensure safety during this Covid-19 period, Cytonn has started installing disinfecting booths as well as acquiring the thermal guns to monitor the health of the workers.

“Covid-19 is obviously a challenge to everyone, but for those in industries that cannot be zoomed in, such as hospitality, aviation, events, and real estate development, business literally came to a standstill. So, it is a double whammy… you are dealing at once with a healthcare crisis and a financial crisis,” he said.

The resumption of the construction of The Alma comes with hope for Cytonn investors who thought Covid-19 had stopped everything.
