Cases of Covid-19 in Kenya are rising at a “dangerous rate” according to the Ministry of Health while calling on Kenyans to observe all the set guidelines.

In the last 24 hours, Kenya has recorded 960 new cases. This is the highest number ever recorded in a day since the confirmation of the first case in March.

The 960 were from a sample of 8,261. This takes an infection rate to 11.6 percent (the number of confirmed cases against the sample tested).

The total number of Covid-19 confirmed cases now stands at 17,603. At the same time, two patients have lost their lives, taking the total number of casualties to 280.

100,000 Body Bags

It has emerged that KEMSA has procured 100,000 body bags in anticipation of mass deaths as the Covid-19 cases continue to rise.

The procurement of body bags comes after reports showed that Kakamega County had set aside land for mass graves in that even Kenyans will start dying en masse.

The move to procure body bags has been criticized by a section of Kenyans who say the move shows that the government has given up on the fight against the pandemic.

The Ministry of Health has not commented on the issue but all indications are that the matter is getting out hand.

President Uhuru Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to meet all Cabinet Secretaries and county government officials on Monday to discuss the surge in Covid-19 cases.

The President is then expected to address the nation after the meeting on the way forward. There have been calls on the Head of State to lockdown some counties where cases are through the roof.

Ignorance of Kenyans

The Ministry of Health is blaming the increase of new Covid-19 cases in the country on the ignorance of a section of Kenyans who have refused to follow the laid down protocols.
