Two 6-year-old children from Kaplelwo village in Kiptere are in critical care at the Sigowet Hospital after they were severely injured by a man they knew as their neighbour for stealing maize from his farm.

Robert Chepkwony, the 35-year-old man is reported to have hacked and injured the two toddlers, both boys, severely for having stolen maize from his farm.

Confirming the incident, the Kiptere sub-location assistant chief David Kipkurui said Robert Chepkwony inflicted severe injuries on the two boys whom he accused of having stolen maize from his farm.

Robert Chepkwony is said to have dragged the two toddlers to his house where he inflicted cuts on them with a knife as his way of disciplining them all while the parents had no idea where the two children were.

The wailing from the two young boys alerted neighbours who rushed to the Robert Chepkwony’s compound only to find the children bleeding with Robert visibly agitated.

The two boys were immediately rushed to the Sigowet Hospital where they were admitted and are currently receiving treatment while Robert Chepkwony was arrested as he made attempts to flee.

Members of the public took Robert Chepkwony to Sondu police station after beating him up where he is currently being held as he awaits to be arraigned in court.

The case of Robert Chepkwony hacking the two 6-year-old boys for stealing maize from his farm comes at a time when Kenyan parents are being urged to be extra-vigilant on their children as vices against children continue to rise.

With Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha recently announcing that all basic learners will resume schools in January 2021, parents are tasked with the responsibility to engage them to avoid acts as such witnessed in Kiptere and the increasing numbers of teenage pregnancies.
