President Uhuru Kenyatta has extended the 9pm to 4am curfew for another 30 days to enable the fight against the COVID-19 spread.

Speaking during his most awaited national address, President Uhuru has suspended the existing cessation of movement in Nairobi, Mombasa and Mandera counties.

“My administration chose the health argument over economic argument because we can always get an ailing economy back to its feet,” President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.

“We chose the path of working with partners to build on irreducible minimums,” President Uhuru Kenyatta has said noting that the responsibility to fight the spread of COVID-19 lies with every Kenyan.

President Uhuru Kenyatta said Kenya had not yet met the irreducible minimum 100 percent to enable it fully reopen the economy.

“However after further dialogue, we have reached a level of preparedness across the country,” President Uhuru has said.

President Uhuru has noted that the directives were open to change depending on how the spread of COVID-19 will be observed in the next 21 days.

“In the next 21 days, we shall study patterns of interactions. If there are any trends of worsening, we will have no choice but return to lockdown at zero option,” President Uhuru has said.

“Covid-19 responsibility is not a demand placed on the self or the individual by the state. It is a duty that you individual owe your countrymen. A voluntary work of goodwill,” President Uhuru has added urging Kenyans to delay non-essential travel to upcountry.

The inter-county cessation of movement lifting has been decided on a few days after President Uhuru hinted on it at the US-Africa trade convened by the Corporate Council on Africa that the government would lift the inter-county lockdown in a couple of days.
