Dear Entrepreneur, How Should You Impose Salary Pay Cuts?

Any day any time, it is very normal for any business to be hit by hardships, recessions, the decline in business, name it. Therefore it also gets close to possible for an employer to resort to a reasonable pay cut.

In the presence of hardships like the decline in business, companies start struggling with the effects of financial distress, the expenditures tend to over way the profits, as an entrepreneur, you may be forced to resort to pay cuts.

The decision to decrease salaries isn’t always out of greed or in consideration of the employer, sometimes his/her intention is for the business to stay afloat, and for employees not to get redundant.

As an entrepreneur, however, you must realize that a pay cut is hard to take and, therefore, what you can do to maintain employee morale and ensure compliance with employment-related laws before chopping employee pay.

Give appropriate and timely notice.

Regardless of the situation, please offer plenty of notice before imposing any changes to pay or before canceling alternative work schedules for cost-saving reasons.

Doing so will show respect for the affected employees, offering them adequate time to make necessary adjustments and to understand your vulnerability towards the decision as there may not have been an alternative.

Give an appropriate reason.

Many employers think they do not owe their employees any explanations, but trust me you always owe an explanation to that team that manages and dedicatedly delivers for your company, same applies here,

Explain specifically why the changes must be made. Provide an estimated time frame for how long the changes might last, with an emphasis on the fact that changing conditions could impact the time frame.

Make considerate and reasonable cuts

Dear entrepreneur, it indeed makes a lot of business sense to avoid making pay reductions so severe that the new salaries are absurdly below industry standards. Additionally, if your company has committed to reducing salaries, make sure they are not selective, but rather reflective of a general commitment to reduce costs.

Fair play in a pay-cutting will helps to maintain good morale even when times are tough and salaries are impacted, this isn’t the time to play favoritism, the overcut may file a lawsuit or other administrative claim.

Always Make Alternative Termination.

Business people for a minute forget that salary pay-cutting news is very delicate and should be announced with care, employees may tend to get out of hand and mess your entire business and reputation up.

Take it from me, if employees know that the alternative may be termination, for instance, they actually may be thankful for a pay decrease. My point is if the news is well-delivered and employees buy it, your company can potentially have a full staff of highly skilled team members, working for less.
