Don’t Be Carried Away By Sideshows On KEMSA – EACC

Following the exposé by NTV through journalist Dennis Okari on the looting of Covid-19 funds by government officials through KEMSA, the Ethics And Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has told Kenyans to relax.

EACC now says that investigations have commenced into verifying the issues raised by the exposé saying Kenyans should not water down the progress being made.

“We urge members of the public not to be carried away by sideshows that may water down or preempt the investigation,” said EACC in a statement.

According to the EACC, the Kenya Medical Suppliers Association (KEMSA) is cooperating with the Commission to establishing the “truth behind the matter.”

EACC says it recommended the suspension of Mr. Jonah Mwangi Manjari, the CEO of KEMSA,  Charles Juma, the Procurement Director, and Eliud Muriithi, the Director Commercial Service and Operations.

“We will continue to escalate the war against both corruption and unethical conduct in line with Chapter 6 of the Constitution, Procurement and Disposal Act, the Leadership and Integrity Act, and other laws,” said the Commission.

For years, Kenyans have blamed EACC for overseeing massive plunder of the country without carrying out its mandate of fighting the same. EACC says it does not have powers to prosecute and often blamed the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).

In his exposé, Mr. Okari exposed how political leaders and other government officials conspired to loot billions of Covid-19 funds from Kenyans without supplying anything of benefit to Kenyans.

In the exposé, it also emerged that donations from billionaire Jack Ma got lost as soon as they landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), taken to Tanzania and resold back to Kenya through KEMSA.

Kenyans have take the better part of Monday angry and protesting on Twitter and other online platforms as it is their norm. Tomorrow they will have forgotten and the looters will have peace.
