Help Tongolo Raise Ksh 878,000 To Treat Prostate Cancer

BY Juma · August 25, 2020 09:08 am

Mzee Tongolo smiles faintly every time you approach, as he sits, facing the main entrance to his homestead. On a normal day, he would be up and down, organizing, talking, laughing, and telling the young people around the tales of life and why uprightness is key to a better life.

But times have since changed and prostate cancer caught up with him. It started as a joke and been eating him from within. Now what remains is the smile that always assures him and those around of a better tomorrow. He knows tomorrow is coming and it shall be better.

As he sits, one can tell that behind the smile, Mzee Tongolo is deep in thought of where the money to foot his medical bill will come from. His medical bill is now at 878,000 and the family has hit a dead-end in trying to find the cash.

Kenyans are known to be generous. We have always stood by each other in rainy days. We have given without being asked and we have saved the lives of people we have never even met. Mzee Tongolo is coming to you, asking for your help. His family too.

The little you have will go a long way in giving him hope of a better tomorrow. Be it 10 shillings, or 20, 50, or even 100, will be of great assistance. In Swahili we say, haba na haba hujaza kibaba and together, we can help him.

Prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is cancer that occurs in the prostate — a small walnut-shaped gland in men that produces the seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men. Usually, prostate cancer grows slowly and is initially confined to the prostate gland, where it may not cause serious harm.

However, while some types of prostate cancer grow slowly and may need minimal or even no treatment, other types are aggressive and can spread quickly.

Prostate cancer that’s detected early — when it’s still confined to the prostate gland — has a better chance of successful treatment.

Symptoms

Prostate cancer may cause no signs or symptoms in its early stages. Prostate cancer that’s more advanced may cause signs and symptoms such as: Trouble urinating. decreased force in the stream of urine, blood in semen, discomfort in the pelvic area, bone pain, erectile dysfunction.

Causes

Doctors know that prostate cancer begins when some cells in your prostate become abnormal. Mutations in the abnormal cells’ DNA cause the cells to grow and divide more rapidly than normal cells do.

The abnormal cells continue living when other cells would die. The accumulating abnormal cells form a tumor that can grow to invade nearby tissue. Some abnormal cells can also break off and spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body.
