Stanbic Bank Kenya, Rotary Club of Nairobi-Lang’ata Partner To Provide PPEs

The Rotary Club of Nairobi-Lang’ata (RCL) announced a partnership with Stanbic Bank Kenya to supply personal protective equipment (PPEs) and disinfectants to seven maternal and child healthcare facilities within Nairobi’s urban settlements to protect frontline workers and patients against the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Rotary together with Population Services Kenya (PS Kenya) will be in charge of distributing the kits to clinics that have a lot of traffic predominantly consisting of mothers and children within Kayole, Dagoreti, Mwiki, Kangemi, and Githurai areas where a total of 69 healthcare workers receive over 5000 patients monthly.

Speaking during the handover of the kits comprising face masks, face shields, hand gloves, and gowns, Rotary Club of Nairobi-Lang’ata President Sarah Migwi expressed the need to protect healthcare workers in local clinics that care for mothers and children.

“With the fight against the spread of COVID-19 raging on, we noticed that clinics that catered to women and children were being left out in receiving the much-needed PPEs. As part of our objectives to provide better maternal and child health, PSK helped us identify the clinics, which will receive these PPEs and disinfectants,” noted President Sarah

The partnership came about due to the high risk of contracting COVID-19 to nurses and midwives that work in precarious environments in urban informal settlements.

Kenneth Kanyarati, Stanbic Bank’s Head of Compliance East Africa said that “The COVID-19 pandemic continues to strain our health systems immensely hence such partnerships with Rotary Club and Population Services Kenya are necessary. Stanbic Bank Kenya remains steadfast in its efforts to put people first and put interventions where necessary.”

Stanbic together with its partners collaboratively spent over a total of KES 147 million in various interventions to fight COVID-19. The bank was a key partner in a consortium that brought in 192 ventilators to bolster our health sector’s readiness to grapple with the pandemic.

In a separate partnership through the women’s value proposition, DADA, and in partnership with Rotary, Stanbic has to date delivered 700 handwashing stations in different parts of the country that improve sanitation for an estimated 700,000 people per day.
