Nivea producer Beiersdorf has donated skin and hand-care products to medical personnel at Kenyatta National Hospital as part of its “Care Beyond Skin” Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

The donation is part of a larger COVID-19 Aid Program contribution of 50,000 Nivea Crème and 10,500 Nivea Petroleum Jelly products to Kenyatta National Hospital, Mombasa General Hospital, and the National Nurses Association of Kenya.

It is aimed at caring for the skin of healthcare workers who are constantly washing and disinfecting their hands as they treat and care for COVID-19 patients.

The “Care Beyond Skin” Kenya initiative is part of a 50 million Euro international funding program announced by Beiersdorf in March 2020 to support communities globally in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funds were allocated to aid in crisis management especially in epicenters of the disease as well as for regions with weak public health systems.

Beiersdorf is teaming up with international organizations as well as local authorities to bring support to the people in need, in this case, those working in clinics and hospitals around the world.

The “Care Beyond Skin” relief program includes in-kind donations such as disinfectants and product donations as well as financial donations.

According to Mathieu Levasseur, General Manager, Central, East, and West Africa at Beiersdorf, “As the company, we want to focus our contribution on vulnerable groups in our societies, to support them and to help to protect them. We, at Beiersdorf East Africa, want to make sure the frontline health workers’ skin remains cared for, by donating 50,000 NIVEA crème and 10,500 Nivea Petroleum Jelly products to Kenyatta National Hospital, Mombasa General Hospital and the National Nurses Association of Kenya.”

According to Leah Muriu, HR Director Central, East, and West Africa at Beiersdorf, “Health care workers continue to provide essential services across the country in a bid to fight COVID-19. Doctors, nurses, and medical practitioners across the country are constantly washing and disinfecting their hands as they treat and care for COVID-19 patients.

This means that their hands require extra care, protection, and moisturization due to the fact that frequent hand washing and sanitizing can lead to extra dryness which makes the skin more prone to developing micro-tears.”

The fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is communal and Beiersdorf East Africa is committed to joining forces with communities to aid in flattening the curve. The organization has previously donated over 5,000 liters of hand sanitizers to government healthcare facilities in Kenya and vulnerable members of the community in an effort to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Globally Beiersdorf is taking a targeted approach to provide effective and direct support where help is urgently needed.

The company is focusing on four areas: financial support for NGOs, production, and donation of disinfectants, product donations as well as doubling employee’s personal donations. It is teaming up with international organizations as well as local authorities to bring support to the people in need.
