Schools To Reopen On October 12 – Ministry of Education

BY Juma · October 6, 2020 02:10 pm

George Magoha, the Cabinet Secretary for Education is here again, this time, not sure whether it is another of his screaming confusion; he says schools are set to reopen on October 12, 2020.

According to the statement from the Ministry of Education, the reopening on October 12 will kick off with Grade 4, standard 8, and Form 4. The Ministry says national exams (KCPE and KCSE) set for March 2021.

This is not the first time Professor George Magoha is coming up with some “surprises” on when schools are supposed to reopen.

Before President Uhuru Kenyatta had addressed the nation, Magoha Son of Magoha had insisted that schools had to resume by fire, by thunder. President Uhuru Kenyatta put him on hold.

“We shall only reopen schools if the safety of our children is assured,” said the President calling on the Ministry to put in place mechanisms to facilitate the reopening of schools.

Covid-19

President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the closure of all learning institutions across the country in March when Covid-19 came knocking.

The move by the Head of State was aimed at cutting down on the spread of the virus among students and teachers.

Since then, there have been conflicting calls and statements as to when and why the schools should resume. At one point, the Teachers Service Commission ordered all teachers to report in schools in “preparation for possible reopening.”

The flattening of the curve

The number of daily Covid-19 infection cases as announced by the Ministry of Health have been dropping with each passing day in what some have described as the “manual flattening of the curve.”

Politicians have already kicked off their campaigns, attracting huge crowds in total disregard of the Covid-19 protocols set by both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health in Kenya.

Kenyans are slowly abandinging the wearing of masks but are these reasons enough to reopen schools?
