Covid-19 Wave Continues To Sweep As 957 Test Positive Wednesday

On 19th, November 2020: 957 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Kenya, from a sample size of 5,559 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 72,686 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country. From the cases 908 are Kenyans and 49 are foreigners.

Distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi had 368, Nyeri 53, Kitui 41, Kiambu 40, Kisumu 37, Nyandarua 35, Mombasa 34, Uasin Gishu 34, Kakamega 33, Homabay 31, Nakuru 28, Machakos 21, Kericho 21, Makueni 21, Kirinyaga 19, Kajiado 18, Siaya 18, Embu 18, Isiolo 15.

Narok 13, Nandi 10, Laikipia 9, Kilifi 7, Marsabit 7, Garissa 5, Elgeyo Marakwet 4, Trans Nzoia 4, Taita Taveta 4, West Pokot 3, Kwale 2, Migori 1, Busia 1, Samburu 1, and Turkana 1.

Additionally, 2,616 patients have recovered from the disease, 2,434 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 182 have been discharged from various hospitals bringing the total recoveries to 49,878.

Unfortunately, 11 patients have succumbed to the disease and the country’s total number of fatalities now stands at 1,313. The country’s cumulative tests are now 804,894.

Currently, 1,191 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,000 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 58 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 27 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 26 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 89 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 72 are in the general wards, while 17 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

So far, 2,369 health care workers have tested positive for the virus of whom 1,186 are males and 1,183 are females. The cumulative fatality for healthcare workers is 30.

Meanwhile, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has asked all teachers who fall under the high-risk age of 58 and above to work from home as a measure to reduce their high chances of contracting the COVID-19 virus.

TSC also announced that all Covid-19 ailments are fully covered under the teachers’ medical scheme. “The commission has negotiated with the teachers’ medical provider, for teachers to be covered for all Covid-19 related illnesses,” said Macharia.

Additionally, according to the association of secondary school headteachers in Kenya, at least 13 principals have died as a result of Covid-19 since the phased reopening of schools.
