Immigration Cancels All Current Passport Applications

The Immigration Department has canceled all current appointments for submission of passport applications and biometrics enrollment, all applicants urged to rebook.

“We have downscaled our operations. All passport applicants are required to book new dates for submission. This is effective Monday, November 9, 2020,” the statement reads.

According to the Directorate of the immigration, this is in line with the Government directive to scale down operations in order to curb the spread of COVID-19curve that has started raising at a very high speed in the country.

Those with emergency travel needs such as medical emergency, scholarships, employment abroad, or government assignments are required to contact the Directorate through their Hotline 0110 922065 during official working hours.

The Directorate has also urged all applicants with urgent needs to travel to provide documentary evidence upon their calling. President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation last week and extended the nationwide curfew to January. Curfew hours were also extended to start from 10 pm to 4 am as compared to from 11 pm to 4 am.

The president instructed bars and restaurants to be closing their businesses at exactly 9 pm and those who will be found operating beyond will have their licenses revoked.

Uhuru banned all political gatherings for 60 days. Those who will be found will be prosecuted. Those wishing to hold political gatherings will be required to do so in town halls with masks.

Additionally, the president also instructed all other learning institutions in the country to reopen in January 2021 as the government continues to monitor the rising Covid-19 cases.

As of Sunday 08th, 719 people tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, from a sample size of 4,732 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 62,488 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country.

The country has so far held a total of 742,481 cumulative tests. Of the cases 685 are Kenyans and 34 are foreigners.

Additionally, 912 patients were reported to have recovered from the disease, 782 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 130 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 41,931. The country’s total number of deaths stands at 1111.
