Nationwide Curfew Extended To January 2021

President Uhuru Kenyatta has extended the nationwide curfew to January 2021 starting immediately in his address to the nation on the way forward on Covid-19.

At the same time, President Uhuru Kenyatta has reviewed curfew hours from 10 pm to 4 am to from 10 pm to 4 am starting immediately.

Bars and restaurants will not be shut down but now will be required to be closing their businesses at exactly 9 pm and those who will be found operating beyond will have their licenses revoked.

The President says Kenyans have started taking Covid-19 for granted and said his government will not hesitate to take more critical measures should the cases continue to rise.

There were fears that President Uhuru Kenyatta was going to lockdown the economy following calls by the Council of Governors who wanted the President to reinstate all the Covid-19 measures. This would have meant imposing cessation of movement in and out of some places in Kenya.

The President says if cases will continue to rise, county governments will have the powers to impose localized lockdowns to cut down on the spread of the virus.

All political gatherings have been banned for 60 days. Those who will be found will be prosecuted. Those wishing to hold political gatherings will be required to do so in townhalls and have those attending putting on masks and observing social distance.

Students in school will be allowed to continue with their learning in preparation for the national exams. However, the overall opening of schools and other educational institutions will be done in January 2021.
