It is the festive season. People are happy and celebrating. As it is the norm, millions from major urban areas like Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, and others have traveled to the rural areas to join families and friends for both Christmas and new year celebrations.

During such a season in Kenya, road accidents are often on the rise leading to the loss of many lives. Many road accidents have been blamed on driver fatigue, poor training, and poor roads but the truth is accidents occur when drivers overlook some simple driving techniques.

Avoid changing music while driving

Plan adequately for your journey

Familiarize yourself with the routes a day before (especially if you are going to use the road for the first time.) Go through Google maps for the route, you plan to use. This will minimize the chances of you having to consult your maps while driving.

Set your Google maps to voice navigation mode

Google maps have voice navigations. This will play a major role in informing you whether you are on the right track, turning points, and stops without you going through your phone.

Purchase a pair of Bluetooth headsets

Bluetooth headsets will ensure that you are able to make and receive calls while driving without you having to struggle with the phone. Most importantly, never text or reply to texts while driving.

Keep water bottles away from the driver’s side

Water bottles can easily roll under the brake pedal making it impossible to apply the brakes. Make sure you have a designated place to rid water bottles.
