Relax, You Will Get Your Funds, But Not Now – Treasury To Governors

The National Treasury has told governors to maximize on the little cash they have as they wait for further disbursements in “due course”.

The Council of Governors, led by Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya had threatened to shut down operations after the National Treasury failed to disburse the devolved funds.

The Treasury says it has so far transferred 133 billion shillings to county governments for the fiscal year 2020/21 with 120.2 billion shillings of the cash being part of the Equitable share.

Ukur Yatani, the CS Treasury agrees that the government is behind schedule by two months in disbursing the funds but called on Governors to use the little they have as they wait.

Counties say they are unable to pay salaries for county workers with Doctors and nurses in most counties being on strike over unpaid salaries and allowances.
