List Of Prominent Kenyan Politicians Who Have Died In The Last 12 Months

Kenyan politicians seem to be dropping one after the other. What is happening? Not that other Kenyans are dying too but every time a politician dies, especially those still serving, a cost has to be paid in terms of funeral arrangements and conducting by-elections.
There have been so many by-elections since 2020. This is not to mention that Members of County Assemblies have been dying at a worrying rate too. This piece looks at the list of prominent politicians who have died from January 2020 to date.
Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi

The death of the second president of the Republic of Kenya remains one of the high-profile death to have occurred in Kenya after that of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. Mzee Moi ruled the country for 24 solid years and died at the age of 95 and buried in Kabarak.
MP Suleiman Dori

He was a Member of Parliament for Msambweni Constituency. He died on March 9, 2020. He joined politics in 2013 and won the seat on an ODM ticket.
MP Ramadhan Kajembe

The death of former Changamwe MP Ramadhani Kajembe a sad of all others. He died barely a month after losing his two wives in what was believed to be from COVID-19.
MP Justus Murunga

Justus Murunga was a Member of Parliament for Matungu Constituency. He died in November 2020 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Mumias.
His death led to MPs demanding that a chopper be on standby for them every time they fall sick and need urgent medication.
MP James Lusweti

He was a Member of Parliament for Kabuchai Constituency, in Bungoma County. He died after a long illness. He was serving as MP on a FORD Kenya ticket.
Senator Boniface Mutinda Kabaka

He was the senator for Machakos County. His death is still marred with controversy and theories. He collapsed in a hotel room where he was with a woman, rushed to the hospital, and died one week later.

Governor John Nyangarama

He was the governor of Nyamira County. He died after spending almost a month in the Intensive Care Unit in what is believed to be from COVID-19.
Joseph Nyagah

He was a prominent politician and a powerful minister during the reign of President Mwai Kibaki. He served as MP for Gachoka Constituency from 1998 to 2007 and was nominated to parliament by the ODM party in 2008.
Simeon Nyachae

Simeon Nyachae died in early February 2021 at the age of 88 and was among the men who shaped Kenya and made it one of Africa’s leading economies.
Nyachae held senior leadership positions under all three of Kenya’s first presidents – Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Arap Moi, and Mwai Kibaki – from 1963 to 2007.
MP John Oroo Oyioka
He is a Member of Parliament for Bonchari Constituency. The legislator passed on at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu after a long illness according to the family.
He was elected to the seat in 2017 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ticket, after failing to clinch the seat in 2013.

MP Francis Munyua Waititu

He is the Member of Parliament for Juja Constituency. MP Francis Munyua Waititu, popularly known as Wakapee had been battling brain cancer.
Munyua had been admitted at MP Shah Hospital.
