It is another dark Friday for families and friends of nine people who have died this Friday morning following a road accident at Gilgil on the Nairobi – Nakuru highway at around 5 am.

The nine died on the spot when the matatu collided head-on with a truck near St. Mary’s Hospital. The lorry was headed in the opposite direction.

The Public Service Vehicle (PSV) was ferrying passengers to Nairobi when the accident occurred at around 5 am. The injured passengers are receiving treatment at St Joseph’s and St Mary’s Mission hospitals. Investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the accident.

“We are expecting management to record a statement with the police, to explain why they defied Covid-19 regulations,” said the police.

The matatu had 15 passengers despite the fact that it was supposed to have 8 according to the new Covid-19 regulations.
