Nairobi Metropolitan Services( NMS) is set to construct six bus terminals out of the city. The project is held to reduce Matatu congestion in the CBD.

The Green Park terminus, Desai and Park road, Fig Tree, Muthurwa, and one of the junctions of Bunyala and Workshop Road, are the six out-of-city bus terminus.

Also, NMS plans to introduce digital queuing systems and smart Cameras in the terminus. The cameras will monitor what is going on in the terminus.

On the other hand, the digital queuing system will monitor the operations of the PSVs while picking and dropping passengers.

According to the NMS boss, Major General Muhammed Badi, the Cameras will be linked to the police headquarters.

“Let’s say you are driving from Ngong Road and the bus comes to the terminus in Town, the officers at the operation Centers will be able to see that bus coming and will arrange how the matatu will come and drop the passengers by automatically putting it in the queuing system,” Mr. Badi said.

The matatus will be required to queue according to their SACCOs following directions from the screens mounted on the terminus.”That helps in ensuring PSVs are disciplined in terms of picking and dropping passengers leading to law and order in the termini,” Mr. Muhhamed added.

I think this is the best idea for monitoring the notorious matatu madness in the city. Also, eviction of congestion in the CBD will put the city in order.

The plan will help the matatu operators to have high levels of discipline. The cameras also will reduce the gangs pausing as trouts and harassing passengers. The police posts linked will ensure enforcement hence reduce misbehavior. The city then is expected to be organized.
