Massive confusion was witnessed along Ngong Road towards Nairobi CBD on Tuesday, April 27th during the test run of Green Park Bus Terminus by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

Matatus operating at the Railways Bus Terminus were not allowed to access the CBD. The effect impacted congestion and heavy traffic stretching to the Upper Hill area. NMS set up the bus terminus out of town, to avoid congestion.

“I’ve had to walk from Green Park to 5th Avenue to get a mat to Ngong Road alighting from South B I was torn between walking to Kencom, Railways, or 5th Avenue,” a victim said.

The NMS transport Engineer Michael Ochieng’ said that the test run which was part of the strategies of the Nairobi Integrated Urban Development Master Plan (NIUPLAN) in decongesting the city went well.

“We are looking to check the safety features even for the disabled and the physically challenged and others who may not be able to make it to town. We have also organized with the Kenya Railways that will provide commuter buses to town,” Ochieng’ said.

On the 1st of April President Uhuru Kenyatta offered a bill of health to the Green park terminus. A health Centre and a Supermarket would be part of the park.
