Sitoyo Lopokoiyit Appointed As M-Pesa Africa Managing Director

Safaricom PLC has appointed Sitoyo Lopokoiyit as the new M-Pesa Africa managing director. The company initiated “the relevant talent sourcing processes to identify and appoint the next Financial Services leaders in due course.”

“I am pleased to announce that Sitoyo Lopokoyit has been appointed as M-Pesa Managing Director effective April 1, 2020,” said Safaricom CEO Mr. Peter Ndegwa.

For the last three years, Sitoyo has been the Chief Financial Service Officer at Safaricom. He previously worked as the Director of M-Commerce in Vodacom, Tanzania. He has more than 10 years of experience in the mobile-money sector.

He joined Safaricom in July 2011 as Head of M-Pesa Strategy and Development, a role he held until September 2015 after which he went to Vodacom Tanzania as Director of M-Commerce.

During his time at Vodacom, he oversaw the delivery of several transformative products and services; led the turnaround strategy and execution for M-Pesa which has resulted in an accelerated growth of M-Pesa in Tanzania

Mr. Sitoyo holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree in marketing from the University of Nairobi (2000) and an MSc in Information Technology Management and Organizational Change from Lancaster University in UK.
