Minet Enlists Additional Facilities To The Teachers’ Medical Scheme

Minet Kenya has announced the addition of various medical facilities under the scheme. Among those included are Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Makueni General Referral hospital in Makueni, and Mwingi Level 4 Hospital in Kitui.

The Nairobi Women’s Hospital branches of Hurlingham and Adams in Nairobi and the Mombasa and Naivasha branches can now see teachers and their registered dependants for outpatient, inpatient, and maternity Services on a Direct Basis. The Makueni and Miwingi facilities will also cover the same services on a direct basis.

The move comes even as Minet moves to expand the number of onboarded government facilities under the scheme in different counties across the country. In February, Minet Kenya enlisted Nyeri County Referral hospital, Karatina General hospital, and Mt. Kenya hospital as the first government hospitals under the scheme within Nyeri County offering outpatient, inpatient, specialized and dental services on direct access.

Commenting on this, Minet Kenya CEO, Mr. Sammy Muthui acknowledged the importance of a robust healthcare ecosystem for socio-economic wellbeing. 

“The current healthcare landscape calls for investment and capacity building to ensure that everyone can access quality medical services, independent of where they live. This includes teachers who are an integral part of our community and key stakeholders of the Teachers’ Medical Scheme. Over the past few years, we have seen an increased demand for specialized and additional lists of services covered among teachers across the country, which has informed our move to onboard more facilities.”

We remain committed to serving teachers in this space and will keep setting up systems and structures that support their wellbeing.’’ He concluded. 

 In July 2020, Minet enlisted an additional 32 medical service providers under the scheme, bringing the total tally to over 500 medical facilities countrywide.

 Minet Kenya has since March 2020, put in place comprehensive support programs for teachers including, launching a USSD code (*202*07#) for inquiry and introducing the

WalimuCare App, downloadable on Google Playstore, where teachers can easily access the scheme’s services. The scheme administrator also committed to covering teachers and their dependants, having laid out initiatives to ensure that teachers have access to prevention, testing, and treatment of COVID-19.

 The Teacher’s Medical Scheme covers over 1,036,000 lives which include 332,000 registered teachers and their dependants countrywide.
