Army Chopper Crashes in Oltinga, 10 KDF Soldiers Confirmed Dead

A Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) chopper has crashed in Oltinga in Kajiado West killing 10 KDF soldiers, injuring 13 others.

According to Kajiado County Police Commander, Muthuri Mwongera, the accident occurred on Thursday at around 8 am and involved an army chopper, which usually carries up to 24 passengers.

The accident was captured live and footage doing rounds on social media showed that the chopper appeared to have burst in flames immediately after crashing. Huge smokes could be seen emanating from the scene.

Kajiado West Deputy County Commissioner, Moranga Morekwa also confirmed the accident.

Zipporah Kioko, KDF spokesperson noted in a statement that the chopper was on a training mission when it went down and burst into flames.

Kioko also identified the model of the aircraft as the Mil Mi-17.

13 soldiers were rescued from the scene and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The cause of the accident still remains unclear.
