"I want to request, on behalf of the government, that the Kenyan parents who are still denying paying the balance of their third term school fees to pay without delay,” said Magoha

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha on Monday, June 7 instructed headteachers across the country to ensure parents pay school fees for the 3rd Term, including sending children with fee balances home.

Speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) during the handing over of the Agricultural Laboratory (ALB) building, Magoha acknowledged that some parents from well off families were taking advantage of an earlier directive where he had asked headteachers to be more lenient on matters regarding school fees.

Prof CS George Magoha added that headteachers and principals should double-check and ensure that the child they are sending home is not from a poor family or where the parent has lost their job. The majority of people who are refusing to pay school fees can afford to pay and they must now pay.

Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, Magoha, in an earlier directive, assured parents that no student would be sent home over lack of fees.

Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Chairman Kahi Indimuli warned that schools were facing financial constraints and wanted parents to be pushed to settle their arrears.

CS Magoha also announced that the Form 1 selection process is on course and will be complete in 2 weeks times as more than 1 million learners will get placements across various secondary schools in the country.

The government has released 9.3 billion shillings capitation funds for primary and secondary schools countrywide.

Education CS George Magoha announced on Monday that the state released Sh2.8 billion and Sh6.5 billion for primary and secondary schools, respectively. He said the government will soon release another Sh6.5 billion funding to the schools.

He was accompanied by a Japanese envoy to Kenya Horie Ryoichi and the JKUAT vice-chancellor Prof Victoria Ngumi.
