ChildFund Appoints Chege As New Regional Director For Africa

ChildFund International appointed Chege Ngugi Regional Director for Africa. Chege succeeds Zambia’s Victor Koyi who has retired after holding this position since 2018.

Based in Nairobi, Kenya, Chege will oversee the operations of nine countries across Africa including Mozambique, Zambia, Guinea, Senegal, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Chege previously served as a Country Director in Mozambique, Ethiopia, and Kenya, where he championed various innovations in programming, fundraising, and partnership building, particularly with corporates.

The Africa Region program is one of ChildFund International’s biggest portfolios in terms of the number of projects and overall reach and impact. Every year, over 6.2 million people, including children, youth, and caregivers benefit from ChildFund International’s programs in Africa.

Under Chege’s leadership, ChildFund will continue supporting countries in Africa through diverse and innovative projects in household economic strengthening, child protection, education, food security, health, and nutrition, among others.

“As we focus on post-COVID-19 socio-economic recovery efforts, there are a number of critical priorities that we will address in order to support vulnerable families, especially children, across Africa,” says Chege. “These include rebuilding livelihoods, boosting child protection efforts, strengthening health, nutrition and education systems, water, hygiene, and sanitation.”

His core competencies include resource mobilization, people management, program design and execution, organizational development, financial management, and budgetary control, and partnerships and strategic alliances formation. Chege holds a master of Business Administration (MBA) from the United States International University (USIU) – Africa and Columbia Business School.
