Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has finally joined the Deputy President’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Waiguru’s decision to officially join the UDA was anticipated as she had initially hinted out of decamping from the ruling Jubilee.

The Kirinyaga Governor was welcomed to UDA on Tuesday 26th Oct 2021 after a meeting with the Deputy President at his official Karen residence. She was accompanied by 23 Kirinyaga Members of the county assembly.

Political maneuvers are always witnessed during such times when the nation is approaching an electioneering period. It is believed that political waves matter a lot when it comes to elections and therefore any aspiring candidate would do anything to earn a ticket from the most popular party in his or her region.

The Governor is fighting to keep her seat come August 2022 and she needs a ‘vessel’ that would make her journey easier. She had even revealed that even if she has done a good job during her first tenure as Kirinyaga County boss, it would be difficult to convince Kirinyaga residents to overwhelmingly support her if she ran on a Jubilee ticket.

Waiguru’s move to join UDA complicates the party’s Kirinyaga gubernatorial matrix as the county’s women Representative Purity Ngirici is also aspiring to run for the top county seat on a UDA ticket. Ngirici too has a huge following, and this would only mean that the competition is really going to be stiff and hot.

What will happen if Waiguru topples Ngirici on UDA party nominations? Time will tell.
