Monday, October 11 has been declared a public holiday by the government for the celebration of Utamaduni Day.

Utamaduni Day allows Kenyans to celebrate the country’s rich cultural diversity and heritage, in a way that promotes national cohesion and economic progress.

The day, which is usually celebrated on 10th October has been pushed a day ahead since it falls on a Sunday.

“Whereas the day is already conferred by law, this shall be the first time that Utamaduni Day is observed in Kenya and this serves to emphasize the need for all citizens to recognize and celebrate this rich cultural diversity of Kenya in a manner that promotes unity, national cohesion and economic progress in Kenya,” Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said in a statement.

October 10 was previously celebrated as Moi Day until the new Constitution was promulgated in 2020.
