The Capital Markets Roundtable for Kenya (CMRK) has officially been launched with the aim to promote unity and cooperation among players in the capital markets industry in Kenya and beyond.

The Capital Markets Roundtable for Kenya (CMRK) has officially been launched with the aim to promote unity and cooperation among players in the capital markets industry in Kenya and beyond.

CMRK will be chaired by Steve Biko, the CEO and Founder of Hidalgo Group of Companies, and deputized by Edwin Dande, the CEO of Cytonn Investments.

“This is a body of like-minded players in the Capital Markets striving for a better functioning system in Kenya,” said the body in a statement ahead of its launch.

With membership open to organizations and players in the Capital Markets, CMRK will be tasked with promoting unity and co-operation among players in the industry as well as providing a Forum that relooks at the Capital Markets and champions for areas that need improvement.

The body will also offer recommendations and suggestions on matters not limited to taxation, policy, legislation, and governance in the industry, and protect and further the interest, welfare, and democratic rights of our members.

“This body shall lobby for improvement in the regulatory environment and the full implementation of the rules and regulations in the Capital Markets industry. It shall also be tasked with organizing seminars, symposia, and workshops for training our members about the present regulations in the industries and their rights,” the statement further said.

Coming at a time the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the sector, the body will prioritize promoting Capital Markets as a source of financing for business funding. It will also promote Capital Markets as a destination for investments to provide a forum where members can receive legal consultation and assistance on industry-wide issues.

Other objectives will be:

To provide opportunities that promote the growth of its members in the industry by facilitating information flow between the stakeholder in the Capital Markets

To arbitrate and settle any dispute that may arise among our members and between the regulatory body and our members

To provide a forum where members are able to raise questions and discuss the various issues in the industry.
