Fuel Prices to Remain Unchanged for the Next One Month

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced that Pump prices for  Super petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will remain unchanged for the next one month.

EPRA maintained the applicable fuel prices despite the increase in lending costs.

Super petrol is now retailing at 129.72 shillings, diesel at 110.60 shillings, and kerosene at 103.54 shillings in Nairobi.

In Mombasa super petrol will continue retailing at 127.46 shillings, Diesel at 108.36 shillings, and kerosene at 101.29 shillings.

Similarly, super petrol will retail at 129.24 shillings, diesel at 110.43 shillings, and kerosene at 103.39 shillings in Nakuru.

In September 2021, the government was criticized for increasing the commodities retail price by an average of 9 shillings. This however did not stick as the prices were reduced to 5 shillings in October.

The National Assembly Committee on Finance last month recommended a reduction in taxes and levies through tax law amendments to protect Kenyans from the spike in fuel prices in recent months.

The committee tabled a report before the House seeking to reduce the Petroleum Development Levy charged on Super Petrol and Diesel from 5.40 shillings to 2.90 shillings.

According to the treasury, Fuel taxes and levies account for about 14 percent of the annual national government revenues and a reduction will mean that either the national government reduces its expenditures or incur more debt to bridge the financing gap.
