Secondary school heads say that the 11 weeks learning period under the revised term dates has put pressure on children leading to stubborn behavior.

Due to the latest pressure mounted on the ministry of education by students and parents, the government has finally agreed to allow all secondary school students to go for a midterm break from Friday, November 19, 2021.

Principal Secretary in the State Department of Early Learning and Basic Education Dr. Julius Jwan has directed all regional and county directors of education to inform school principals about the midterm break that will end on Tuesday 23rd November 2021.

“The ministry of education issued school term dates via a circular Ref.MOE/CONF/GS dated 3rd December, 202. It has been decided that the half term break will commence on Friday 19th November 2021 to Tuesday 23rd November 2021”, said Jan.

The recent increase in school fires recently has been attributed to a prolonged learning period without proper rest.

Secondary school heads say that the 11 weeks learning period under the revised term dates has put pressure on children leading to stubborn behavior.

The second term, which commenced on October 11 will close on December 23, 2021. This will be followed by a ten-day rest before the third term commencing on January 3, 2022, and ending on March 4, 2022. It does not indicate any dates for mid-term breaks.

The school Heads Association National Chairman, Kahi Indimuli said that the second term is often a busy learning period as most teachers work to cover the syllabus. This could have also put a load on the students’ shoulders.

The parents who have been worried of their children’s safety and health can now breath and hope that the half term break will bring an end to the school fires.
