How to Register for NHIF Biometrics

NHIF is smoothly transitioning its members from the use of cards to a biometric mode of identification and verification.

The service provider has embedded on a mass biometric registration exercise for its members as well as deployed Electronic Management System (E – Claim).

Here is the procedure for a biometric registration;

  1. Visit the nearest NHIF branch offices with a copy of your identification documents, copy of your National ID, or NHIF Card.
  2. Once verified; your details will be captured.
  3. For new members, you will be issued with a registration number ones registered on the database
  4. After the registration or verification, you will be identified using your fingerprint or a one-time password (OTP) at any facility of choice.
  5. If a member is unwell but not biometrically registered, the hospital will biometrically register them first before seeking any service from the hospital

How to register for NHIF online

  1. Go to the NHIF registration portal
  2. Click Self Employed
  3. Enter your National ID/Passport/Alien ID
  4. Fill in all other form fields.
  5. Attach a Scanned Copy of Your ID or passport.
  6. Attach Passport size Photo.
  7. If married, attach your spouse’s Marriage Certificate.
  8. Click to Confirm. Your application will be submitted if you filled all the details correctly.

After the registration, you can easily access NHIF services without necessarily having to go to their offices physically.

The app enables you to carry out activities such as;

  1. Registering for NHIF from their website

  4. Choosing your preferred outpatient facility.
  5. Making the monthly payments.
