This iconic park is the only national park within the limits of a capital city. It is home to a diverse array of wildlife including lions, leopards, buffalos, zebra, antelopes, giraffes, and over 400 species of birds. Once inside the park, it does feel like you have left the city far behind.

Sunset over the Ngong Hills and vast vistas stretching down over acacia-dotted plains are evocative of the true spirit of Africa. This is the place you surely ought to be this festive season.

  1. Vasco da Gama pillar and Fort Jesus

Fort Jesus in Mombasa and Vasco da Gama pillar along Malindi have for the longest time been considered Kenyan landmarks due to their richness in history.

The two are the most prominent physical reminder of the Portuguese influence in Kenya.

They are historical monuments recorded in the Kenyan school syllabus. I encourage Kenyans to visit this place because you wouldn’t want your children to miss out on these interesting learning sites.

  1. Giraffe Centre / Animal Orphanage

Located in Lang’ata, approximately 20 kilometers from the center of Nairobi, Giraffe Center was established to protect endangered species of giraffe found only in the grasslands of East Africa.

The main attraction for both school children, adults, and visitors is feeding giraffes from a raised observation platform. The Giraffe Center is also home to several warthogs which freely roam the area along with the giraffes.

Such a good place for a family holiday Trust me you will love it.

  1. Mamba Village in Lang’ata

Crocodiles may seem dangerous in the rivers but watching them in a controlled environment is adorable

The resort also contains other animals such as giraffes, ostriches, and a man-made lake for exotic boat rides that you will love.

  1. Lake Bogoria

Lake Bogoria in Kenya is one of the lesser celebrated of the Rift Valley lakes but it provides as much beauty and inspiration as any of the other dramatic lakes in the region.

With its ideal conditions, it is home to one of the world’s largest populations of lesser flamingoes. Due to the lake’s alkalinity, blue-green algae grow well, this, in turn, feeds the flamingoes.

Apart from the flamingoes, there are many other birds and animals to see at Lake Bogoria such as buffalo, zebra, baboon, warthog, caracal, spotted hyena, impala, and dik-dik.

  1. Maasai Mara National Reserve

Maasai Mara is situated in southwest Kenya and is one of Africa’s greatest wildlife reserves. Together with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, it forms Africa’s most diverse, incredible, and most spectacular eco-systems and possibly the world’s top safari big game viewing eco-system.

With the wildebeest migration in JULY – OCTOBER, this is the best time to see this incredible movement of animals. Also, December to February is a great time as it is dryer and good for the Big Cats.

  1. Kiboko Bay Resort in Kisumu

Kiboko Bay Resort is located on the shores of Lake Vitoria. The hotel is a haven for various bird species. From the hotel one can sight indigenous, evergreen Dunga wetlands and hippos grazing at the shores of the lake.

Boat rides and fishing expeditions with the local fishermen are some of the fun activities guests get to enjoy while at Kiboko Bay Resort.

Want to explore lush green mountains in Kenya? Then head to this Aberdare National Park that incorporates rare species of animals like black leopard and black serval.
