The planes will be sold as scrap metals and will go for as low as 5,000 shillings. The Authority says the planes have overstayed at their yards at the Jomo Kenyatta, Moi, Wilson, and Lokichoggio airports.

If your dream was to own a plane, then luck is on your side because the Kenya Airports Authority is actioning 73 junk planes in its four main airports around the country. The Authority is calling on interested parties to place their bids.

According to KAA, the planes will be sold as scrap metals and will go for as low as 5,000 shillings. The Authority says the planes have overstayed at their yards at the Jomo Kenyatta, Moi, Wilson, and Lokichoggio airports.

9 of the 73 planes to be auctioned will be sold above one million shillings. The most expensive will go for 25 million shillings.  KAA says the parking fees for the said planes have accumulated and the owners are not paying up.

Companies and organizations whose planes are to be auctioned are Somali Air Force, Jetlink, Skyward, Eagle Aviation, Prestige Aviation, Fly540, Pan Africa Airways, and Planes for Africa. The companies have remained mute.

“All interested purchasers are requested to view the items as per the dates and verify their respective details as these are not warranted by neither the auctioneer nor KAA as the items are being offered for sale ‘as is-where is,” the notice from KAA read.

Bidders will have to pay a deposit of 100,000 shillings per item on auction. Where the bid price is lower than the deposit price, the bidder will be refunded the difference after presenting a receipt.

KAA also requires all purchased items to be paid for and collected within seven days of the date of the auction or it will start charging storage fees of 10,000 shillings per day until they are picked up. If the items are not collected within 14 days, they will be forfeited to KAA.
