KEY POINTS

Covid-19 cases have been increasing in Kenya despite the massive vaccination drive.

Kenyans have become careless and disregarding the Covid-19 protocols.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Do the following to protect yourself:

~ Wash your hands

~ Maintain social distance

~ Sanitize

~ Put on your mask

~ Vaccinate

The recent rise in Covid-19 infections in Kenya is scary. With the Omicron variant in the country, the increasing numbers shouldn’t be taken lightly.

As usual, a section of Kenyans feels the Ministry of Health is not giving the correct numbers. With or without the correct numbers, Kenyans should wake up and realize that the pandemic is here.

When President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the dusk to dawn curfew that had been in place for more than a year, Kenyans seem to have mistaken it to mean that Covid-19 had come to an end.

People all of a sudden became careless. They abandoned all the laid down Covid-19 protocols both by the World Health Organisation and the Ministry of Health.

With the increasing numbers, perhaps it is time to go back to the basics. Let us remind ourselves of how vigilant we were when the pandemic first struck the nation.

Here are the basics:

Wear your mask. What happened to the wearing of masks? Most Kenyans no longer wear masks while in public. This is despite the fact that masks are going for a low as 5 shillings. Wear your masks.

Keep social distance. The government f Kenya led the way by returning the carrying of passengers on full capacity for Public Service Vehicles. Social distancing was thrown through the window. Kenyans no longer keep their distance, be it in church or in a club.

Wash your hands. It’s just that simple. Just wash your hands regularly. Avoid shaking hands and hugging everyone you meet. The simple fact is, treat everyone as a suspect because when it is time to go into the grave, you will go alone.

Sanitize. How many offices and homes still have sanitizers? Most still do have sanitizers but no longer use them. If you must, please sanitize. It is good to be prepared than to be sorry.

Let us go back to the basics.
