Another epic battle in the world of football is happening today where Manchester United will be clashing with Arsenal at the Old Trafford Stadium. In Kenya, the mood is already at its peak, with Kenyans already excited to witness the historic derby.

Given that the greatest battles have been done by the Gunners and the Red Devils, the upcoming game at Old Trafford is no different.

It is a huge game. The two sides have the same ambitions this season, and it is all set for a monstrous clash on Thursday evening.

The Gunners currently sit above the Red Devils in the Premier League table and will be aiming to extend that advantage to eight points and, of course, cut the gap to the top four.

As the giants clash today, we remember when Arsenal visited Kenya courtesy of SportPesa. The goal of the visit was for local teams to get exposed to international best practices for Kenya to realize its goal of reaching the football World Cup in 2022.

Aside from being trained on talent identification, the course, which comprised both practical and theory lessons, will also focus on defensive play and conditioning. The training camp was attended by coaches from all the 16 teams in the local womens’ premier league.

“Train a coach well and you have automatically improved the game of like 20 players at one go. That is why we have taken a wholesome approach to ensure that our coaches also get proper lessons on what works best in this game,” said Ronald Karauri, CEO SportPesa.

The first coaching happened in May 2016. Drew Tyler was present. Participants were taken through the international standards of football and best coaching practices aimed at nurturing talents within and without Kenya.

The 2nd coaching happened on the 5th of December 2016. During the training, 3 coaches from the English Premier League side were in Kenya courtesy of leading sports betting company SportPesa for a week-long training session.

The training was attended by 50 coaches from local premier league teams at Kenya School of Monetary Studies, Nairobi. Present were Drew Tyler, James Colinese, Jonny Georgiou. Club Legend ‘Lauren’ (Laurean Bisan Etamé-Mayer was there too.

The 3rd coaching happened between May and June 2017.

SportPesa and developing talents

A brand is known by how much it invests in people. No business exists in a vacuum. People make up a business and a business serves the people.

They say it is not how fast one arrives at the finishing line but how many people one helps to reach the finishing line.

SportPesa is doing some tremendous work in empowering societies as well as investing in search activities as talent development and sustenance as well as in the health sector through the donation of cash and equipment.

Programs such as Kits For Africa were started with SportPesa together with its partners in Europe to help local teams have the real feel of sports in full sports kits.

Sportpesa and the Sportpesa Foundation continue to nurture and develop youth talent, while also supporting other good courses in society.

Most recently, Sportpesa became the official sponsor of Murang’a Sports Excellence Academy Limited (M-Seal) Football club which plays in the second-tier league, the National Super league.

A week before that, it reopened the Umoja 1 Boxing Gym in which it fitted a roof and made various renovations to ensure that the youth have a place to nurture their talent.
