Suspected Al-Shabaab Blows Himself Up And A Couple In Kisumu

A suspected Al-Shabab terrorist used a suicide bomb to kill himself and a couple in Katito, Nyakach in Kisumu County.

The bomber is said to be a returnee from the Al-Shabab and used locally made explosives which he had tied around his waist.

The suspect, identified as John Odhiambo, died on the spot alongside the couple. One other person, the daughter of the couple, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.

Nyakach OCPD Daniel Chacha says that Odhiambo detonated the IED at around 10 pm.

He further added that the suspect had been on the radar of the police in connection with an explosion that occurred in Katito last year.

On December 20, 2020, the suspect is alleged to have tried to kill his girlfriend by detonating an explosive device.

Tight security has now been heightened around Nyakach Area as civilians are advised to share information on terrorism activities with police.
