2 Nairobi Hospitals Latest Beneficiaries of Sportpesa’s Maternal Health Support

KEY POINTS
SportPesa Foundation launched its Maternal Health Care support program in March 2021 to equip the maternity units of needy hospitals across Kenya to promote hospital deliveries that are deemed safer.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Since the rollout of the Maternal Health Care program by SportPesa Foundation, the company has delivered much-needed assistance to the maternal health units of 21 hospitals in eight counties including Kilifi, Bomet, Narok, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Nairobi, Homa Bay, and Kiambu counties.
As part of the Maternal Health Care support program launched in 2021, Sportpesa through its foundation has provided medical equipment to two more facilities in Nairobi County to improve the quality and accessibility of services.
In Kasarani Ward, the company extended support to Kasarani Health Centre’s Maternal and Child Health care section by donating a refrigerator, oxygen cylinder, salter scale, BP machines, height board, a cooker, delivery pack, a bed for emergency deliveries, surgical gloves, and masks.
At Njiru, the SportPesa Foundation gave a haemogram machine, an electric delivery bed, a patient monitor, a commercial washing machine, and BP monitors to the hospital’s maternity wing.
“We were elevated to a level 4 facility in December, this means that we need to be offering all-round basic medical services without referring patients elsewhere, to do this we need a well-equipped hospital so this is a very great gesture from SportPesa,” said Rosemary Mideva, the head nurse at Njiru Level Four’s maternity wing.
SportPesa CEO Capt. Ronald Karauri said the donations are part of the company’s contribution to enhancing health infrastructure for improved services in maternal health.

“We are doing our part as a corporate to enhance maternal health care which we feel is a very crucial area in health and needs all the support it can get from both the public and health sector,” said Karauri.

It is also committed to other courses that benefit the community at large. For instance, in 2021, Sportpesa also engaged in sponsoring some football teams in Kenya, supporting girls for menstrual health, and donating kits for grassroots teams in various counties.
SportPesa Foundation supports communities in areas of sports and education, maternal care, and ending period poverty by promoting menstrual hygiene projects.
