KEY TAKEAWAYS

A total of 72.3 million hectares of organic agricultural land, including in-conversion areas, were recorded in 2019.

A recent analysis by Vantage Market Research has revealed that the global organic fruits and vegetable market will hit 68.50 billion dollars (approximately 7.78 trillion shillings) by 2028 driven by increased organic farming.

The new figure is a significant increase from the 39.45 billion dollars recorded in 2021 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.2 percent.

The projected growth has been largely attributed to farmers increasing the growing area under organic farming and increasing consumer awareness about healthy diets.

“The changes in lifestyle and food habits of consumers are also anticipated to augment the growth of the global organic fruits and vegetable market,” stated Vantage Market Research.

Growing Area under Organic Farming

The organic farmland and organic retail sales continued to grow and reached another all-time high basis on the data generated from 187 countries at the end of 2019.

A total of 72.3 million hectares of organic agricultural land, including in-conversion areas, were recorded in 2019.

Furthermore, it was estimated that 1.5 percent of the world’s agricultural land is organic. The new report indicates that organic farming has been increasing considerably resulting in the growth of the market in the years to come.

Consumer Awareness about Healthy Diet to Stimulate Market Growth

The increase in consumer awareness about healthy diet along with changed lifestyle and food habits is expected to support the growth of the organic fruits and vegetable market in near future.

The working population around the globe is struggling to fulfill the daily nutrient requirements owing to hectic work schedules and changing lifestyles. This is increasing their dependency on organic fruits and vegetables that help to provide useful nutrients, such as Vitamin C, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus.

Organic food production forbids the use of chemical pesticides, fertilizers, or preservatives due to which organic foods are increasingly gaining popularity which in turn is expected to fuel the growth of the market.

Furthermore, it also helps in improving heart condition which is also expected to create more opportunities for the growth of the market. However, the high price of organic label fruits and vegetable products coupled with undefined regulatory guidelines may hamper the growth of the market.

Moreover, the increase in investments by small-and mid-sized food product manufacturing companies to offer more healthy products to the consumers will further support the growth of the market.

Meanwhile, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, market players faced numerous challenges as disruptions in the supply chain were observed. However, things are expected to improve in the second half of 2022 as more supplies will come online.
