KEY TAKEAWAYS
Parents want what is best for their child and a strong parent-child relationship can help lead to better outcomes for children.
Having your child or parent as your best friend is one of the most unique and positive relationships you can have as a family. Having a close and healthy relationship with your child will help them to interact better with other people around them, develop positive social behaviors, and improve their emotional, cognitive, and social development.
Of course, as time passes, the relationship might change to be better or get worse because adulting changes what it means to be attached to the people who raised you because you guys are no longer living on the same roof. But even though, if you guys were close there will always be that bond.
Being close to your kid should start immediately you find out you are pregnant, that’s when you should start bonding. As the kids grow, learn to be open with them about everything that they should know, this will help them to be more open with you too hence strengthening your bond because once they grow up and you try to be close they might feel shy to open up to you or some might feel you are invading their space because they are not used to such closeness with their parents.
Don’t be that parent who is feared by your kids as this will not make them be honest with you and they will hide a lot of things from you which you are supposed to be the one helping them in some situations. Such relationships are unhealthy and they break the close bond that you could have heard with your kid.

Every Parent has their way of raising their kids but having a close relationship with them will have such benefits.
- Young children who grow with a secure and healthy attachment to their parents stand a better chance of developing happy and content relationships with others in their life, unlike kids who do not have a close relationship with their parents.
- A child who has a secure relationship with a parent learns to regulate emotions under stress and in difficult situations because they know how to handle such situations as they have been learning from the parent.
- Promotes the child’s mental, linguistic, and emotional development. This will help improve the livelihood of your kid, unlike a child who is not mentally stable.
- Helps the child exhibit optimistic and confident social behaviors because they are not insecure about anything.
- Healthy parent involvement and intervention in the child’s day-to-day life lay the foundation for better social and academic skills.
- A secure attachment leads to healthy social, emotional, cognitive, and motivational development. Children also gain strong problem-solving skills when they have a positive relationship with their parents.
If you wish to have a close relationship with your child, you can follow the tips below to strengthen your relationship.
Always tell your child you love them
Some parents find it difficult to tell their kids just simple words like ‘’I love you’’. You have no idea how these words can strengthen your relationship with your kids. Of cos you love your child but instead of doing actions at least be open and tell them how you feel even in difficult situations.
Try and Play with them
Playing with your child not only improves their development, it can also improve their relationship with you and also help children’s language skills, emotions, creativity, and social skills.
Be there always
Just try and communicate to your child without any distractions when they are speaking to you. Take a break from the internet and just spend time bonding with the kids at least once in a while and this will improve your relationship
