WomenWork Launches Digital Program to Help Women Embrace Technology

KEY POINTS
The Digital Future Program aims to support 200 women-owned businesses to learn digital skills to optimize their websites and e-commerce sites, make data-driven decisions, and acquire customers online through their website and social media.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Many women and girls are usually associated with low levels of education, thus limiting their ability to apply digital technologies and confining them to a limited number of technological services and applications.
Technology plays a very critical role in ensuring the growth of a business. Globally, women-owned businesses are on the rise and are fighting to be at the forefront of applying digital innovations to improve their entrepreneurial activity.
However, compared to their male counterparts, most women and girls lack the basic digital literacy needed to adopt the internet and the digital economy fully.
This is majorly because many women and girls are usually associated with low levels of education, thus limiting their ability to apply digital technologies and confining them to a limited number of technological services and applications.
According to the GSMA Mobile Gender Gap Report 2020, lack of literacy and digital skills remains the most significant barrier to mobile internet adoption among female mobile users aware of mobile internet.
Closing the digital gender gap requires structured efforts from the government and formed partnerships between the government and businesses, NGOs, Academic institutions, and community groups.
To this end, WomenWork, a Kenyan technology-driven company with the pan-African ambition focused on the advancement of African women entrepreneurs, has come on board. Through digital peer-to-peer communities, knowledge enhancement, and access to capital, the company has launched a digital program to help women grow and be successful in their ventures.
The Digital Future Program aims to support 200 women-owned businesses to learn digital skills to optimize their websites and e-commerce sites, make data-driven decisions, and acquire customers online through their website and social media.
