After 4 Years of Winning Ksh 230 Million Mega Jackpot, How Has Gordon Ogada’s Life Changed?

KEY POINTS
Ogada was credited for fully sponsoring 56 students from various wards in his hometown to secondary school. He has a trophy for this performance, one that he proudly displays in his house.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The over 200 million-shilling mark has only been won four times: By Samuel Abisai in May 2017 (Ksh221,301,602), the second time it was won on May 30th, 2017, by three people; 60-year old Florence Machogu, Daniel Rono, and Geoffrey Keittany.
In 2018, Gordon Paul Ogada, a humble resident from Migori County, won the Sportpesa Mega Jackpot worth 230,742,881 million shillings. At the time, this was likely the biggest jackpot in Kenya and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Contrary to the mantra surrounding jackpot winners – that they often run broke after a while – his story has been nothing but remarkable. This week, the SportPesa team, including the CEO and Founder of Hidalgo Group of Companies, Steve Biko, paid him a visit in Migori County.
A few months after winning the jackpot, Ogada made headlines when he said he was broke. Well, many took him to his word. In reality, he took a break to strategize and plan, and plan he did.
His life changed overnight when he won the jackpot. Initially, he lived in Kibera, but after his win, he bought a house in Nairobi to ensure that his family lived comfortably and upgraded his rural home.
Ogada made a series of investments and started a philanthropy arm as well helping orphans and widows. He did all this quietly, taking care to stay away from the limelight until now – this weekend.
Seeing him now, one can’t believe his eyes. He has built a big mansion near his town, in perhaps what could be the leafiest suburb in the small city in a few years to come. The house itself spells class. It is secluded and fancy, and the compound is receiving some finishing touches.

In Ogada’s resolve to positively impact his community, he was recognized by Migori County Government in 2019 for outstanding performance in promoting education in Nyatike Sub County.
Ogada was credited for fully sponsoring 56 students from various wards in his hometown to secondary school. He has a trophy for this performance, one that he proudly displays in his house. Have a look:
