HELB Announces Loans Application For KCSE 2021 Students, How To Apply

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has opened a window for 2021 KCSE candidates to apply for the 2022-2023 first-time loans.

According to a notice published Wednesday, July 27, HELB, noted that it was targeting students who are set to join the universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the coming weeks.

HELB announced that it had opened the portal on its website to enable students to make their applications.

On July 26th, HELB also called on students pursuing postgraduate degrees (Masters or Ph.D.) at local public or private universities to apply for scholarships. According to a release from HELB, the scholarship awards for Master’s and Ph.D. students are worth Ksh200,000 and Ksh450,000, respectively.

For a Master’s program, the scholarship is valid for two years, and for a Ph.D. program, it is valid for three years. All applicants must pay a non-refundable fee of Ksh3,000 via the payment tab on the site’s portal.

How to Apply

Interested applicants should visit www(dot)helb(dot)co(dot)ke and create an account under the student’s portal using their mobile number and ID number. After logging in, applicants are required to select the loan application option.

Applicants for undergraduate are required to select the 2022-2023 Undergraduate First Time Loan Application Form (LAF) while their TVET counterparts are required to select the Certificate/Diploma option to access the 2022-2023 TVET First Time Loan Application Form (LAF)]

“Print two copies of the duly filled application form. Ensure you preview the form and correct it where necessary before you submit it for printing. Have the forms appropriately filled and signed where necessary.

“Present one copy of the duly filled form and all the attached support documents at any of the Huduma centers,” read the notice in part.

Alternatively, the applicants can submit the form at HELB Student Service Centre located at the Anniversary towers, Nairobi, Mezzanine 1. The applicant is required to remain with the other printed copy.

“Upon submission of the loan application, there will be progressive notifications on receipt, verification of application award and disbursements of upkeep and tuition loans, and where applicable, bursary.

“This loan application process is free. Be alert to avoid being conned. Contact HELB for any queries.” However, applicants have been advised to complete their application before the November 30 deadline.
